BROWS

Oh no, I won't wear a black skirt

no black shoes,

no black shawl

I'll go to you in white

that's how it has to be.

I will wear nine white skirts on my body

one over the other.

I'll sit down in front of the mirror

which will be covered with coarse linen,

I'll strike a match,

that flares up

and I'll put it out with spit

and paint black brows

over my black

and then I'll have two pairs of brows

mine and yours over mine

oh no, I'm not putting on a black skirt,

I'm putting on black brows,

I'm wearing yours on my body.

armor

The starting point for this project is the above poem by Ukrainian author Ljuba Jakymtschuk, in which the protagonist makes it clear that she does not want to bow to the usual expectations after the death of a loved one who died in the war. Despite her grief, she mobilizes determination and a view of the future, which makes the depth of the drama even more palpable.

Countless women around the world are in a constant struggle for self-determination and against violations. In the process, they have to develop subtle mechanisms of resistance. They create resilience and strength by arming themselves, putting on fragile, invisible armor and resisting, even if this involves great risks.
